Portland Mortgage Market Update — July 25, 2025

FedInflation / CPI

Written Friday, July 25, 2025 by Mark Ruhl, NMLS #105591

Rates are relatively flat to slightly worsened this week with little news. Currently we are sitting just be low 7%

The biggest news this week was President Trump visiting the Fed remodel jobsite and getting a tour by Fed Chair Jerome Powell. It was a pretty bizarre scene seeing them side by side in hardhats but by the end of if they seemed to be best buds with the Fed releasing a statement saying it was "an honor" to host President Trump and in a post tour press conference Tump seemed to be generally impressed with how things are going and implied trust in what Powell was doing in both the remodel and his role as Fed Chair.

Next week bring the Fed's preferred measure of inflation, the PCE report. I will be watching carefully and a weaker than expected report could lead to lower rates.
